Rotary club Rostov-na-Dony

Brief History

In 2008 Rotary Club Rostov-na-Donu celebrated its eighth year. The history of the Club began when two businessmen from Rostov, were on trip to USA by CCI program and learnt there about Rotary movement, its philosophy and ideas.

Rotary Club Rostov-na-Donu was chartered on 22nd of September, 2001. The founders of the Club are Rostov businessmen Oleg Ivanchikhin (director of the furniture company «Skameyka»), Dmitry Parshikov(the general director of advertising firm «Rezon»), Andrey Scorik (the director of Russian and American School of Business, CCI member), Alexander Makarov (the general director of the shipping company «Voyage»), Vitaly Lonskiy (the owner of «Rennaisance» firm) and Alexander Shepanovskiy (the member of the Director Counsel, radio station «Europe Plus»).

Sponsor Clubs were Rotary Club of North Tulsa (Oklahoma, USA) and Rotary Club of Volgograd, Russia. The Club began its work helping for orphanages and families of scanty means and supporting disabled people and invalids. Also Club helped to buy medical facilities for the emergency substations. Club members tried to raise funds among them business partners, to develop different contacts in order to develop Rotary movement in the city and to involve new members in the club.

Rotary Club Rostov-na-Donu belonged to the District 2370 (Sweden) until 2006. In 2006 the first Russian District 2220 was established by Rotary International. The District administration locates in Moscow. Since 2006 Rotary club Rostov-na-Donu belongs to the District 2220, Western Russia.

In order to Rotary experience, Rostov Club bases its work on four main directions of service. They are: International Service, Club Service, Vocational Service and Community Service.

However one of the main aspects of Rostov Club service is work with children and youth because the young people are the future of any country and a whole planet.

The main thing for every Club is Club extension. That?s why Club invites guests and speakers for its meeting, looking for the worthy people who can became the Club member.

Club retention is very important aspect of club life. So that Rostov Rotarians organize different joint actions, trips, family parties and sport meetings. There is a tradition to join together outdoors once a month.

RC Rostov-na-Donu keeps in touch with the other community organizations and clubs. For the five years period Club was visited with the huge number of guests and speakers from Rostov and other cities of Russia and abroad. There are businessmen, state employees, government representatives, actors and medics, and many others.

And of course Rostov Club alwayskeeps in touch with the other Rotary Clubs from Russia and abroad with the purpose of friendship relations and joint service projects. Sometimes Rostov Club hold joint meetings with the other Russian Rotary Clubs — from Moscow, Krasnodar, Volgograd, Volzhsky, Saint Petersburg, Samara and other Russian cities.

Rostov Club also has the fellows-Rotarians in USA and Canada, in Bulgaria and Serbia, in Germany and Switzerland, in Sweden and Italy. In 2007 thr project was executed jointly with RC San Leandro, California, USA. Two clubs raised funds and built playground for children invalids.

Every year delegates from Rostov Club visits different international Rotarian meetings and, of course, annual Conventions of Rotary International.

In 2007 RC Rostov-na-Donu contributed in Polio Plus Find in the frames of the great project of Rotary International.

In 2005 Rostov Rotaract Club was chartered. Now there are 15 members of Rostov Rotaract Club — students from Rostov-na-Donu, Azov and Novocherkassk. Rotaract Club was established due to the support of Olga Bushueva (Past-President 2006—07) and Ivan Nepeivoda (Past-President 2004—05), and, of course, due to support of all Club members.
